The Two Faces of the EU

Between Reform and Resistance

#YSC24: Friday, 24 May - Saturday, 25 May 2024

Learn about the YSC’s anniversary conference during which we celebrated 5 years of bringing together young security enthusiasts to envision the future of European Security and Transatlantic Cooperation.

This Year’s Topic

During YSC 2024, attention was directed towards the lack of commitment among European Union (EU) member states to the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP). Participants delved into historical, political, and institutional factors that shape national priorities in foreign and security policy. The aim was to uncover how these factors impede robust engagement with the CFSP and hinder the development of a more unified EU Foreign Policy.

From geopolitical shifts following Russia's illegal invasion of Ukraine to the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East, and the EU's institutional expansions, the YSC 2024 thoroughly explored recent events. These discussions set the stage for a deeper understanding of the fundamental core interests of EU member states.
